We were all very excited that Tim Richardson MP had made himself available to speak at our AGM and give everyone a Victorian Education Budget breakdown. That is until the government decided to move the budget date because of the Federal election!
Tim Richardson was still more than happy to come along to the AGM and spoke to the almost 50 people in the room about the vision for education in his new position as Parliamentary Secretary of Schools.
Tim spoke passionately about reducing the number of early school leavers, about increasing the opportunities for disadvantaged young people to connect with education and finally about the impact that mental ill health is having on our students.
The formalities of the event ran smoothly with the BGKLLEN Chair (Sue Cattermole), Treasurer (Ben Vasiliou) and BGKLLEN Executive Officer (Brendan O’Connell) speaking with pride about what the small team at the BGKLLEN have achieved in 2018.
So many good things happened in 2018 that it’s difficult to choose which ones to highlight, however here we go:
- 6,910 BGKLLEN resources are in use
- 1,570 people attended BGKLLEN presentations
- 21, 128 hours of student placements in local businesses
- 88% of the At Risk Forum attendees think their practice will improve after attending the forum
- The Managing Stress and Anxiety Teacher Resource was launched by Tim Richardson MP
- The Engagement Co-Design Framework (ECDF) Inclusive Transitions Pilot was successfully completed

Tribute was also paid to Les Heimann OAM who was a long standing BGKLLEN Committee of Management member who sadly passed away in December 2018.
Ben Vasiliou was welcomed as the new Chairperson of the BGKLLEN and spoke about his journey, beginning his first full time job as OnTrack staff member at Frankston Mornington Peninsula LLEN.
After a delicious breakfast and the formalities of the morning were over the room was buzzing with all the networking and connecting that was happening.
We aim to make next year’s AGM as interesting as this one was!
